I'm Addicted to Plants

Over the past couple years, indoor house plants have become more popular and easily accessible. Even when I lived in an apartment, I always wanted to have some, but I just never made it a priority. Something about them has a calming effect; a sense of coziness. I’d look at them whenever we’d head to Home Depot or Lowes, but I could never bring myself to spend money on them. After doing a bit of research, I found some plants that seemed fool proof. That was almost 6 years ago and now, my house is literally covered with planters and greenery.

How My Obsession Started

It started with air plants. Cute little Tillandsias that could be hung from an ornament, or left by itself. The fact that it requires little to no maintenance was a plus for me. I had a couple, but my curiosity ran deep. My Snake Plant purchase eventually evolved into a Fiddle Leaf and my Fiddle evolved into a Monstera…so on and so forth. I literally looked at plants every chance I got.

Although this was years ago, I have to admit that I might be obsessed. I love how they look in my home and the fact that not only is it esthetically pleasing to the eye, but these plants provide clean air too! In my master bedroom alone, I have 8 different types of plants. Not to mention, 4 different types of Monstera growing in the house.

Where Can You Get Them

You can purchase plants just about anywhere! The supermarket, hardware stores or nurseries. But if you’re obsessed like me, try propagating your existing plants to create more. Some are as easy as simply snipping off some of the branch and sticking them in a glass of water. Eventually, where you pulled those leaves off, roots nodes will appear. Once you have enough roots, you can plant them in potting soil. You might have to do a bit of research on how they best propogate, but it’s really easy with a little care. If you have friends who love plants just as much as you, consider hosting a plant swap to trade plants or cuttings.
