Nursery Update: Rainbow Room
My dream nursery design has evolved over the past couple months, and most recently has been influenced by Goldie's personality.
We removed the bed in her room and replaced it with a small sofa to give her the space to play and explore. We also replaced the rug in her room after realizing that shag rugs were not the way to go with a little one. It started to shed and Goldie found every chance to put that fuzz, right in her mouth (Mom fail, lol)
After all these small changes, it appeared that something was missing. The wall that the bed was on had a make shift headboard. Since that was missing, the wall needed a little love. After some time and deliberation, I decided to paint a half rainbow in her room! Wanna know how I did it? Read below:
Supplies
Paint Samples $10
Paint Brush Set $3 (Dollar Tree sells a paint brush set that includes a tray, a small roller, a brush and gloves all for $1!! It’s a steal)
Detail Brush Set $5
Painters Tape $7 (Highly recommend Frog Tape!)
Pencil
String
Level Tool
Total Cost: About $25
Steps:
Measure the space to determine how far apart you want each row including the space in between each color. Mark the walls using your pencil.
Tape off the areas, the baseboards and use the width of the painters tape as the gap in between each row.
Curves. Here's the tricky part. Use string that won’t stretch, although longer lengths of string tend to stretch, no matter what. The string length can be found by formula, but sometimes it’s simpler just to pull a string around and free hand the curve.
Lastly, paint! I used a roller for the base, once I got to the curves, I used a detail brush to outline the curves and paint between the lines.
Have more questions for me? I’d love to hear them.
