The BEST Homemade Playdough Recipe

I’ve been on a DIY kick lately and while there are so many fun options for Toddlers, playdough is something that I loved growing up, so I decided to give it a try and make some for a sensory kit that I’m making Goldie. When I realized how simple it was, I had to share.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup flour

  • 2 tsp cream of tartar

  • 1/2 cup salt

  • 1 tbsp coconut oil

  • 1 cup water

  • food coloring

  • essential oil (optional)

  • glitter (optional)

  1. Start with creating your color. What I found best was to mix your food coloring directly into the water. Don’t mix it after making your playdough! It’s definitely easier and you’ll save your hands from turning into a different color.

  2. Add flour, cream of tarter, salt. coconut oil and colored water in a medium sized pot and cook on low while stirring to avoid burning. You’ll know when it’s ready when the dough pulls away from the pot!

  3. Remove from heat and knead.

  4. Optional: Fold in a couple drops of essential oil and or glitter.

To store the playdough, wrap in saran wrap and place in an air-tight container. Keeps for up to three months.
